The lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which was launched by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has unveiled a new Instagram account. The account features a vintage-style video showcasing Meghan cooking in a country-style kitchen and arranging flowers. The short, grainy, sepia-toned video also prominently displays the brand’s logo, American Riviera Orchard, written in fine gold script above the word Montecito, which is a celebrity enclave near Santa Barbara in California, where Meghan and Prince Harry have resided since 2020. The video was set to Nancy Wilson’s 1960 hit “I Wish You Love.”
While little information has been disclosed about American Riviera Orchard, a trademark application filed on February 2 suggests that the company plans to offer downloadable and printed recipe books, tableware, textiles, jams, and marmalades, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.
Within just four hours of its first post, the brand’s Instagram account had amassed over 160,000 followers by around 9 pm on Thursday (UK time). This marks Meghan’s return to social media since stepping back from royal life with Prince Harry in March 2020, following their decision to discontinue the joint account @sussexroyal.
Meghan’s venture into entrepreneurship comes at a time when the Prince and Princess of Wales are under heavy scrutiny after Kate publicly apologized for digitally editing a family portrait taken by William and released by Kensington Palace to mark Mother’s Day.
With the launch of American Riviera Orchard, Meghan Markle joins the ranks of several celebrities who have made successful ventures into the world of lifestyle brands. Given her noteworthy culinary skills and dedication to philanthropy, the Duchess of Sussex is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact through her latest venture, reflecting her commitment to authenticity, creativity, and elegance.
