According to recent data released by Iran’s Automotive Industries Office, the country’s car industry has shown significant progress, specifically with passenger car production exceeding 1.13 million in the current calendar year ending March 19, as reported by IRNA. This represents a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Mehrdad Khosravi, the Director of the Automotive Industries Office at the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade, stated that the production of pickup trucks has also experienced a significant surge, witnessing a 32% increase to 166 thousand vehicles during this period. Furthermore, the manufacturing of commercial vehicles, including vans, minibuses, buses, trucks, and trailers, has increased by about 2% compared to the previous year, reaching over 40 thousand units.
Prominently, Khosravi highlighted the substantial contribution of the private sector to the automotive industry, accounting for 23% of the total production, with approximately 307 thousand vehicles. In addition to passenger cars and commercial vehicles, the production of motorcycles has displayed substantial growth, surpassing 600 thousand units this year, marking a notable increase of about 28% compared to the previous year’s output.
