In a significant effort to enhance the economic prospects of displaced and migrant communities, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has recently awarded financial aid to 350 young individuals from displaced families of PoJK, West Pakistan Refugees, and Kashmiri Migrant families to initiate their own business ventures. This historic event was presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Convention Centre, in accordance with an official statement.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed his excitement about the occasion, affirming that the financial assistance provided to the displaced families of PoJK, West Pakistan Refugees, and Kashmiri Migrant families would assist them in realizing their aspirations and igniting an entrepreneurial spirit within the community. He also indicated that the government aims to establish a progressive entrepreneurial environment in the union territory under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the Special Governance camp, various government departments, District Industry Centres, KVIB, J&K Mission Youth in collaboration with J&K Bank and Relief & Rehabilitation department conducted outreach programmes to engage with young individuals who aspire to establish their own business enterprises and make a positive contribution to society. The focus was not only on providing a means of livelihood but also on empowering youth to fulfill their dreams through entrepreneurship.
The Lt. Governor emphasized that entrepreneurship is not just a source of income for youth, but it is a powerful tool to help them fulfill their aspirations and dreams. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing support for skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities to empower the future generation. Furthermore, he encouraged the youth, especially the girls from displaced and migrant communities, to take advantage of the self-employment schemes offered by the government.
The LG also commended the J&K Bank for their ‘Sewa Se Swabhimaan’ initiative, a dedicated effort for the economic empowerment of Kashmiri Migrants and displaced families of PoJK and West Pakistan Refugees. Additionally, officials of various departments were acknowledged for their significant contributions to the self-employment initiative.
The event was attended by Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary of the Industries & Commerce Department; MD and CEO of J&K Bank, Sh Baldev Prakash; and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), Sh Arvind Karwani, along with senior officers, prominent citizens, and beneficiaries.
This initiative serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to explore opportunities in entrepreneurship and achieve their full potential. With the support of various departments and collaborative efforts, the empowerment of displaced and migrant youth through entrepreneurship is a significant step towards sustainable economic development in the region.
