Supporting Employee Wellness: How INEOS is Encouraging a Healthy Lifestyle

3 min read

At the core of Hull, INEOS Acetyls is making significant efforts to prioritize the health and well-being of its employees. Ranging from coordinating recreational runs to monthly fitness challenges, the global chemical company is steadfast in its commitment to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among its staff.

The introduction of the INEOS Energy Station platform has been instrumental in driving this initiative. Through this platform, employees have access to valuable advice and guidance, and they partake in unique health and wellness challenges designed specifically for them. Alexa Chilton, the project manager for INEOS Energy Station, stressed the company’s dedication to cultivating a community of employees devoted to embracing a healthy lifestyle both within and beyond the workplace.

INEOS firmly believes that a healthy workforce not only contributes to a more content and efficient work environment, but also enhances overall safety. The company is strongly convinced that when employees prioritize their well-being, the risk of injury or incidents is significantly reduced, fostering a safer work environment for all.

The Energy Station project, established in 2017, serves as a global platform connecting all INEOS sites worldwide. It offers employees access to fitness and wellness advice, monthly focus areas, and class schedules for INEOS gyms at various sites and offices. Furthermore, the platform presents engaging fitness and wellness challenges designed to nurture teamwork and healthy competition among colleagues.

Notably, INEOS has strong connections with various sports teams globally, encompassing running, cycling, sailing, rugby, and football. The company leverages these connections to cultivate a sense of camaraderie among colleagues through challenges that see thousands of employees taking part.

One particularly popular challenge is the Tour de France. As part of this challenge, teams of up to 25 participants collectively cycle the same distance covered each day of the Tour de France. Alexa highlighted the inclusive nature of these challenges, emphasizing that employees can participate in any capacity they are comfortable with, while also raising funds for local charities.

In fact, teams that successfully complete all 21 stages of the Tour de France remotely receive a £1,000 donation for a local charity of their choice. The team in Hull chose to donate to The Daniel Wilkinson Foundation, a charity focused on raising awareness of Sudden Cardiac Death in the young and providing funding for heart screening and CPR/defibrillator training for grassroots sporting teams.

Alexa emphasized that beyond improving INEOS as a workplace, these initiatives are about contributing to the overall health and happiness of the workforce. It’s not just about promoting a healthy lifestyle, but also about giving back to the local community and supporting causes that are dear to the hearts of employees.
