Subject: Presentation on the Impact of Technology on Children
We are pleased to announce a forthcoming community event organized by MSAD 28 and Five Town CSD, featuring Grace Chen, who will share her expertise on the impact of technology on children. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m., at Bisbee Theater, located in Camden Rockport Middle School. The presentation, titled “Screens and Kids,” aims to provide valuable insights into the different categories of device usage, the effects on children, and strategies for managing screen time within the family.
In today’s society, parents and educators have noted adverse effects on children resulting from excessive screen time. It is therefore imperative to understand the implications of screen time and discern whether all forms of screen time carry the same weight. Grace Chen, drawing from her extensive experience in the tech industry, will provide an insider’s perspective on the various types of device usage, the underlying reasons for their design, and their impact on today’s youth. While there may not be a one-size-fits-all solution to this issue, the presentation will offer frameworks to assist families in making informed decisions about device usage.
Grace Chen’s remarkable 20-year career in the tech industry includes positions at major companies such as Google, Meta, and Square, where she developed products for consumers, small businesses, and enterprise clients. Furthermore, in 2016, she co-founded a startup that offered an affordable high-speed internet alternative to cable, eventually selling the company to Meta in 2020. Notably, Chen holds multiple patents for her groundbreaking work in technology product development. Her esteemed career commenced as an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and she holds a B.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
On a personal note, Grace Chen is a proud resident of Camden, where she resides with her husband and two children, both of whom attend Camden-Rockport Elementary School.
We extend our invitation to all members of our community to attend this enlightening event on April 11 and gain valuable insights from Grace Chen’s expertise. Understanding the impact of technology on children is crucial for parents, educators, and the community at large in fostering healthy screen time habits for our youth. Do not miss out on this valuable opportunity.
