The HBCUniverse Summit is poised to make a triumphant return in September following the success of its inaugural installment at Morgan State University. This event, intended to shape the future of HBCU Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is set to unite aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators from across the United States.

The first summit, held on February 24, was a collaborative undertaking between Venture for T.H.E.M. and THINK PGC. It centered on commemorating the entrepreneurial and innovative triumphs within the HBCU community. The event provided a platform for HBCU students to partake in panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities with established leaders from various industries.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage in panels covering topics such as the future of Startup Fundraising, Tech and Innovation, Media and Culture, and Digital Currency. Additionally, the summit included diverse workshops, HBCU Trivia, and a pitch competition, delivering a comprehensive experience for the more than 450 participants in attendance.

A notable moment of the event was a speech by Dia Simms, CEO of Lobos 1707 Tequila, who shared her journey as a Black woman in business with the eager audience. The summit also boasted over 20 prominent guest speakers, attracting virtual participants from around the world, and garnered support from over 30 sponsors and partners, as well as government agencies offering internship and full-time opportunities.

The summit received commendation from noteworthy figures, including Vice President Kamala Harris, an alumna of Howard University, who extended congratulations to the organizers and participants for their dedication to uplifting young Black students and professionals. Maryland’s governor, Wes Moore, also lauded the event, underscoring the potential of the showcased work and ideas to effect positive change in the world.

As the event garners momentum, it continues to inspire and empower students and alumni who are making significant strides in entrepreneurship and innovation.
