In March, Seoul was the centre of attention for the culinary world as it hosted the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant awards ceremony. Esteemed chefs from across Asia gathered in the South Korean capital, each with their own curated list of must-visit dining establishments. We had the privilege of engaging in discussions with several of these celebrated chefs to uncover their top dining choices in Seoul, as well as the gastronomic keepsakes they acquired during their visit.

Johanne Siy, acclaimed as Asia’s best female chef of 2023, expressed her fondness for fermented foods and lauded Yun and Onjium as her most notable dining revelations in Seoul. Furthermore, she ensured to obtain premium sesame oil, perilla oil, dried anchovies, ceramics, and brassware to bring back with her.

Daniel Calvert, the distinguished British chef behind Tokyo’s Sézanne, lauded Onjium and Cafe Smallthing in Seoul. His luggage encompassed a selection of Korean snacks and two trophies from his successful visit.

Kevin Wong, the talent behind Seroja in Singapore, savoured his dining experiences at Eatanic Garden and has already scheduled a visit to Pro Soy Crab and Jungsik on his next trip to Seoul. Additionally, he brought back Korean wheat and honey confectionery, porcelain plates and cups, as well as a variety of snacks.
