Satoca Bike, a family-owned enterprise located in Vernon, serves as a notable illustration of the positive impact of the Entrepreneur Immigration Program in attracting new businesses and community members to Canada. Mark Hope, the proprietor, relocated to Vernon with his family from South Africa in November 2022, courtesy of the Entrepreneur Immigration Program.
Hope attributes his decision to settle in Vernon and establish a business to the community’s alignment with their business concept and its outdoor-oriented lifestyle. He does, however, acknowledge that the immigration process was arduous and costly, yet remains appreciative for the opportunity to establish a business in Canada.
Initiated in 2020 but beset by pandemic-related delays, the immigration process entailed consultations with municipal officials, presentation of the business proposal, and negotiation of the provincial and federal government’s immigration and business authorization requirements. After a span of two and a half years, the Hope family ultimately arrived in Vernon and inaugurated Satoca Bike in April 2023.
While the business is progressively gaining momentum, Hope concedes that navigating the local business milieu, devising marketing strategies, and complying with regulations has been challenging. He posits that additional support from the local business community would have been advantageous during the initial phase of establishment.
Regarding the immigration procedure, Hope acknowledges the accessibility of resources and support as and when required. As they continue to meet business objectives and deadlines, the Hope family is on track to secure Permanent Residency status and, eventually, Canadian citizenship.
