Lee Valley VeloPark has recently unveiled the introduction of an advanced health and fitness suite, made possible by a substantial investment of over £500,000 from the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority. Scheduled to debut in May, the new facilities will be overseen by GLL, a charitable social enterprise and worker-owned cooperative operating under the community-brand Better.
Shaun Dawson, the chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, conveyed his enthusiasm for the investment project, stating, “We are delighted to be executing this investment project during Lee Valley VeloPark’s 10th anniversary year.” Furthermore, he added, “This latest investment to establish a top-class fitness suite, available to all, is part of our ongoing program of enhancement at the venue, guaranteeing its long-term sustainability.”
The VeloPark has a noteworthy history as a world-class venue, having hosted track cycling and BMX events during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The venue is also the sole facility to have hosted Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships, and Commonwealth Games in the same sport. This new investment will further cement its position as a centre for fitness and elite sporting events.
The new fitness suite will feature cutting-edge TechnoGym cardiovascular machines, Pure Strength resistance kit, dedicated functional training areas, and a free weight area. An exceptional feature of the new gym is the incorporation of an outdoor workout space outfitted with self-powered equipment, providing a unique fitness experience amidst the outdoor surroundings and view of the road circuit.
Additionally, patrons of the gym will have the opportunity to utilize the one-mile road circuit for cycling and running during scheduled sessions. Keith Griffiths, general manager at Lee Valley VeloPark, expressed his enthusiasm for the new additions, emphasizing that the venue is not exclusively for cycling, but a centre for fitness catering to a diverse range of enthusiasts.
The construction of the new gym commenced in early February and is projected to conclude in May. Those interested in membership can register their interest at better.org.uk/velopark.
This investment signifies the dedication of Lee Valley VeloPark and GLL to delivering top-notch facilities for fitness enthusiasts and athletes alike.
