Central High School recently hosted an entrepreneurship showcase, offering students the opportunity to present their innovative business ideas and products. The event, which featured a diverse range of student-run businesses, including clothing, accessories, and culinary enterprises, highlighted the creativity and talent of the school’s students.
Part of Central High School’s entrepreneurship course, students collaborate with their teacher to develop a business name, a comprehensive business plan, and a persuasive pitch. The showcase served as a platform for students to display the results of their hard work throughout the school year.
Teresha Jones, Principal of Central High School, expressed her enthusiasm for the showcase, emphasizing the valuable learning experience it provides for students. The event not only allowed students to showcase their talents to their peers, but also gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills to the wider community and the school’s faculty and staff.
The showcase featured a panel of distinguished judges, including TCS Superintendent Mike Daria, District 7 Tuscaloosa City Councilman Cassius Lanier, and District 1 City Councilman Mathew Wilson. The judges listened to students’ pitches and ultimately selected which business to invest in. One of the standout businesses at the showcase was “BTK” (Born Through Knowledge), which was ultimately awarded the business grant.
Jahmila Baker, CEO of BTK, explained that the business was inspired by the belief in the power of knowledge. The group of four students behind BTK aimed to encourage others to seek knowledge, recognizing it as an essential and invaluable asset.
The showcase not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talents but also addressed the issue of shy students being reluctant to share their gifts. The initiative sought to empower students and provide them with the confidence and platform they needed to flourish.
Expressing gratitude for the support they received, the BTK team acknowledged the mentorship and assistance they received from their teachers, particularly mentioning the instrumental support of Ms. Winston and Dr. Kim. Despite the challenges they faced throughout the process, they expressed their satisfaction with the outcome, attributing their success to the unwavering support they received.
Councilman Mathew Wilson also pledged his support for the entrepreneurship program at Central High School, expressing his intention to allocate discretionary funds to the program. He further expressed his commitment to collaborating with other school board members to ensure the sustainability of the program through strategic partnerships.
In conclusion, the entrepreneurship showcase at Central High School not only provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas but also demonstrated the school’s dedication to nurturing and empowering its students. The event’s success and the positive feedback from students and community members underscore the significance of providing platforms that encourage and support student entrepreneurship.
