Powering the Future: BOU and BOEA Join Forces to Support Entrepreneurs

The Open School of Bangladesh Open University recently collaborated with the Bangladesh Online Entrepreneurs Association (BOEA) to convene a seminar that focused on empowering future entrepreneurs. The event, titled “Empowering Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs: Unleashing the Potential of Online Entrepreneurship,” was held at the BOU Gazipur Campus and brought together a diverse group of academics and officials to deliberate on the burgeoning field of online entrepreneurship and its potential impact on Bangladesh’s economic landscape.

During the seminar, Md Aktaruzzaman Sarker, the general secretary of BOEA and senior vice president of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC, delivered an insightful keynote address. He highlighted the transformative power of digital innovation and networking in reshaping traditional business models and underscored the critical role of online platforms in providing opportunities for entrepreneurs. Sarker also emphasized the importance of digital literacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks in ensuring the success of online businesses.

The Vice Chancellor of BOU, Prof Dr Humayun Akhter, underscored the university’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship development initiatives aligned with the government’s online smart-Bangladesh agenda. He emphasized that BOU is dedicated to leveraging its extensive network, including Regional and Sub-regional centers, to bolster entrepreneurship in the country.

In addition, plans were announced for an e-Learning Programme on Entrepreneurship Development in partnership with BOEA, utilizing suitable digital platforms. This initiative aims to equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the online business landscape.

The event also saw the participation of distinguished guests, including Prof Dr Nasim Banu, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin), and Prof Mostafa Azad Kamal, Treasurer. Dr Md Mizanoor Rahman, a faculty member of Open School, played a key role in coordinating the seminar and ensuring its success.

The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BOU and BOEA. This formalized partnership aims to jointly develop and deliver academic programs on entrepreneurship development. The MoU, signed by BOU Registrar Dr Md Shafiqul Alam and President of Online Entrepreneurs Association Mostary Morshed Smrity, solidifies their commitment to supporting and nurturing aspiring entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. The partnership will be in effect for the next five years.

The ceremony at the BOU campus in Gazipur was attended by pro vice chancellors, deans, directors, teachers, and officers, along with other esteemed guests, making it a truly significant event in support of entrepreneurship in Bangladesh.
