New Renewable Fuel Plant Set to Double Production in Spain

Topsoe, a leading provider of carbon emission reduction technologies, has recently announced an agreement with Cepsa, a prominent international company dedicated to sustainable mobility. The agreement involves Topsoe supplying its HydroFlex technology for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel at the new plant of Cepsa’s Bioenergia San Roque (CBSR) in Palos de la Frontera, Spain.

Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer of Topsoe, expressed her enthusiasm about being selected as the technology provider for this significant project. She emphasized the crucial need for renewable fuels in supporting the energy transition, particularly in challenging-to-electrify sectors such as long-distance transportation. The new plant, with an expected annual production of 500,000 tons of SAF and renewable diesel, will double CBSR’s total renewable fuels production capacity to 1 million tons per year, establishing it as one of the largest renewable fuel complexes in Southern Europe.
