Welsh Business Takes the Crown at FSB Small Business Awards

The annual Celebrating Small Business Awards 2024, hosted by The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), took place at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. During this esteemed event, the Start-Up Award was presented to HJH Commercial Consultants from Deeside, cementing its position as the premier start-up business in the UK.

HJH Commercial Consultants has experienced substantial growth, expanding from a solitary employee to a team of 20 Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers. The company operates within the renewable energy, utilities, and civil engineering sectors, placing a strong emphasis on innovation, dedication, social values, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Dylan Johnson, the director at HJH Commercial Consultants, expressed gratitude for the award, stressing the significance of acknowledging the diverse team that has contributed to their success. He highlighted the under-representation of women in the industry and commended their business development manager, Rebecca Harrison, for her role in driving the business forward while contending with the challenges of being a working parent. Johnson also emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability and its focus on collaborating with local stakeholders for a sustainable future.

The FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards brought together representatives from over 140 small businesses across the UK. This event acknowledged regional winners in various categories such as Innovation, Young Entrepreneur, Sustainability, and Diversity & Inclusion. Notably, the title of ‘Small Business of the Year’ was bestowed upon CCU International, an Edinburgh-based carbon capture innovator.

Martin Mctague, OBE, National Chair of FSB, commended HJH Commercial Consultants for their remarkable achievement and highlighted the significant role of small businesses in contributing to the economy. He also congratulated all the finalists from Wales for demonstrating the diversity, creativity, and tenacity of small businesses and self-employed professionals.

The list of UK winners across the 12 categories includes CCU International for Small Business of the Year & Innovation Award, Samantha Cage of Ocala Healthcare for the Young Entrepreneur Award, Stubcroft Farm Campsite Ltd for the Sustainability Award, and Technology Powered Services Ltd for the Expansion & Growth Award, among others.
