One hundred young women from 13 Scottish schools and 7 universities and colleges are scheduled to participate in a thought-provoking financial services insight day at Edinburgh Napier University this June. Organised by the charity Future Asset, the event aims to furnish these students, aged 15 to 21, with a comprehensive overview of the diverse career opportunities available in the financial services profession.
Accompanied by their educators, the students will have the chance to engage with financial services professionals who will enlighten them on the various roles within the sector, encompassing front, middle, and back-office positions. Moreover, the full-day programme will include workshops on various entry routes into the financial services profession, such as apprenticeships, school leaver posts, graduate schemes, and internships. The students will also gain valuable advice on application processes, interview techniques, and enhancing their skills and experience.
The day will conclude with visits to the offices of sponsoring companies based in Edinburgh, where students will meet with staff and participate in question and answer sessions. Participating companies include Aegon, Artemis, Baillie Gifford, BlackRock, and others.
Colin Anderson, representing the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) and educational charity in Scotland and Northern Ireland, has expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. He emphasized the importance of exposing students to the diverse array of job opportunities within the sector and encouraged their exploration of the exciting and inclusive financial services industry.
Helen Bradley, CEO of Future Asset, articulated the organization’s objective of equipping young women with the knowledge and confidence to pursue rewarding careers in finance. She pointed out the need to address the underrepresentation of women in the financial services industry and stressed the importance of initiatives like Future Asset in encouraging young women to recognize and fulfill their potential.
