Putting the Spotlight on Health and Fitness in West Vancouver

The Canadian Health and Fitness Institute is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its pioneering health forum in West Vancouver. The forum covered a wide range of events and activities, addressing important topics such as promoting physical activity and active living in the digital age. The final presentation, “How to Get Youth Active in a Digital World,” is scheduled to take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Sentinel Secondary’s theatre.

The forum commenced with events such as Walk with your Doc and How Active Living Reduces Acute Care and Chronic Illness, which took place at Park Royal. The lineup of events brought together respected health and wellness professionals, accomplished athletes, and musical performers. Distinguished speakers included the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity; Madison Mailey, Olympic gold medalist; Mathieu Roy, CEO of Trans Canada Trail; and Shari Ulrich, Juno-award-winning musician.

Dr. Jack Taunton, a founding Director of CHFI, emphasized the significance of focusing on mental, physical, and spiritual health to enhance overall well-being. According to Dr. Taunton, this proactive approach can help address issues such as screen addiction, sedentary behaviour, obesity, diabetes, cardio disease, loneliness, mental illness, substance abuse, and unnecessary sickness care costs.

John Weston, President of CHFI, credited the success of the event to the participation of Canada’s first Minister of Physical Activity, Carla Qualtrough. He also underscored the importance of discovering innovative approaches to promote physical and mental health in communities.

Mayor Mark Sager of West Vancouver echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the valuable knowledge and energy shared at the forum, not just for the local community, but for the entire nation. He expressed his excitement at the prospect of engaging with Canadians from all across the country.

The National Forum, organized by the Canadian Health and Fitness Institute (CHFI), also provides support to the Let’s Move Canada Challenge, which commenced on June 1. The challenge encourages Canadians to collectively engage in healthy physical activity, with the aim of exceeding last year’s total of 500,000 hours. Interested participants can join the challenge by downloading the Strava App and tagging @letsmovecanada. Additionally, participants have the chance to win an iPad by entering a draw.

Aligned with its goal to make Canada the fittest nation on Earth by 2030, CHFI is committed to promoting physical activity and healthy living. The event seeks to raise awareness and inspire individuals to take proactive steps toward improving their overall well-being.

Admission to the event is free, but seating is limited. For those interested in attending and participating in the Let’s Move Canada Challenge, detailed information can be found on the official CHFI website at chfi.fit.
