Unstoppable Laurie Cummings: A Remarkable Story of Health and Fitness

2 min read

This past Sunday, our show showcased an exceptional health and fitness special featuring the esteemed Laurie Cummings, a local athletics world record holder. We were also joined by our resident health and fitness experts, Tina and Matt from Space to Thrive Health and Fitness. For more information regarding their upcoming health, fitness, and meditation retreats, please visit Matt and Tina’s Facebook page, where details about the first retreat designed for ladies and future residential offerings can be found.

At 83 years of age, Laurie Cummings challenges the conventional notion of aging, demonstrating that the term “bionic” may be more appropriate than “spritely” to describe him. His life story is truly remarkable, having attained the title of Queen Scout in his youth and later serving as a police officer with numerous accolades, including a bravery award. Upon retiring from his 31-year career as a police explosives officer, Laurie pursued new challenges and became a Sub Aqua diving instructor, accumulating nearly 13,000 dives while working in Turkey and Egypt.

As if that were not enough, Laurie’s wife, Judy, acts as his personal trainer and dietitian, supporting him in his passion for running. As a result, Laurie currently holds every age category record in 5k Park Runs across various regions in the UK, including Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland, parts of North Yorkshire, and Scotland. It is evident that Laurie’s journey in athletics is far from over, leaving us to ponder what extraordinary feats he will accomplish next. One thing is certain, we will be closely following his athletic pursuits as he continues to inspire us all.
