Global South Nations Facing Pressure from Worldwide Tensions: PM Modi Addresses G7 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful message at the G7 summit in Italy, highlighting the challenges faced by countries in the Global South due to global uncertainties and tensions. He emphasized the need to address the monopoly in technology and promote creativity as a means to build a more inclusive society.

During an Outreach session at the G7 summit, Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s commitment to advocating for the priorities and concerns of Global South nations on the world stage. He specifically mentioned India’s focus on Africa, expressing pride in the decision to grant the African Union permanent membership in the G-20, during India’s chairmanship.

Prime Minister Modi also stressed India’s dedication to supporting the economic, social, and security development of African countries, and pledged to continue contributing to their progress in the future.

In his address, the Prime Minister placed particular emphasis on the importance of ending the monopoly in technology and harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence for the benefit of society. He emphasised the need to make technology more creative and less destructive, advocating for a human-centric approach to technology that promotes inclusivity and accessibility.

India’s proactive measures in the field of artificial intelligence were also highlighted by Prime Minister Modi, who shared that India is one of the first countries to develop a national strategy on AI and has recently launched the AI Mission with the mantra ‘AI for All’. He also mentioned India’s role as a leading member of the global partnership for AI, promoting cooperation among nations in this critical area.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of international governance in the field of AI, mentioning India’s advocacy for transparent, fair, secure, accessible, and responsible AI at the G-20 summit hosted by India last year.

On the topic of energy, Prime Minister Modi outlined India’s approach based on four fundamental principles: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. He reiterated India’s commitment to achieving the target of Net Zero by 2070 and encouraged collective efforts to transition towards a greener future.
