The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has recently introduced its latest endeavour, the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), with the aim of fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the region.

Funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, the EDC is designed to serve not only the students and faculty of the University and its affiliated colleges, but also the broader community of the East Khasi Hill region.

The primary objective of the centre is to establish itself as a focal point for innovation, encouraging students and faculty members to take risks, think creatively, and transform their ideas into viable business ventures. By providing a nurturing and supportive environment, the EDC seeks to unlock the potential of numerous aspiring entrepreneurs, thereby contributing to the economic and social prosperity of the region, as per a press release.

During the inauguration ceremony, NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla emphasised the transformative power of entrepreneurship and elaborated on how the EDC would act as a catalyst for cultivating innovative ideas, providing essential support and resources to aspiring entrepreneurs within the university and the local community. The Vice Chancellor also underscored the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and industry to establish a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
