The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has recently announced the launch of the Pre-Incubation Entrepreneurship (PIE) Development Programme. This programme is designed to provide crucial support and guidance to early-stage space startups. The primary goal of this initiative is to cultivate the talents of aspiring space tech innovators and equip them with the necessary resources to bring their space-related business ideas to fruition.

The 21-month long PIE Development Programme is structured to guide participants through a comprehensive journey that covers key phases such as ideation, innovation, and prototype development. By offering tailored support at each important stage of development, the programme aims to provide budding entrepreneurs with a strong foundation to build upon. The programme is specifically targeted towards students in technical courses or those with a strong passion for space technology who are on track to graduate in 2024, as well as individuals pursuing Master’s or Doctorate programmes, and early-stage startups focusing on space technologies with the intention of developing their own entrepreneurial ventures.

Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent within India’s growing space sector. He stated that “PIE will provide them with a launch pad, equipping them not only with technical expertise but with the business acumen needed to navigate the complexities of the space industry.”

In order to qualify for the programme, applicants must not have received any form of financial aid or support from private or government schemes. Additionally, early-stage startups that have been registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade on or after July 1, 2022, are eligible to participate.

This new initiative by IN-SPACe represents a significant step towards empowering the next generation of space entrepreneurs in India. By providing them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support, the programme is poised to contribute towards a more vibrant and innovative space industry in the country. With its structured approach and focus on empowering young talents, the PIE Development Programme holds great promise for the future of the Indian space sector.
