The prominent British supercar manufacturer, Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA), has recently announced a strategic decision to relocate the production of its T.50 supercar to a state-of-the-art headquarters in Highams Park, Surrey. The new facility has taken over the manufacturing responsibilities from the company’s previous location at Dunsfold Park.
This move is anticipated to bring about various efficiencies in the production process of the T.50 supercar and will facilitate the streamlined production of carbon fibre monocoques for T.33 prototypes and forthcoming models at the Dunsfold Park facility. Furthermore, this decision means that monocoques required for development, testing, and crash testing will now be produced on-site, expediting the pre-production phase of the supercar.
The construction of the new Gordon Murray Group HQ at Highams Park represents a substantial investment exceeding £50 million. The site, situated near the village of Windlesham, will serve as the Group’s global headquarters, encompassing a purpose-built 4,300-square-metre Vehicle Production Centre, as well as the Gordon Murray Heritage collection and a specially-designed Vehicle Dynamics Test Road, all within 54 acres of picturesque English parkland.
For customers desiring to receive their cars from Highams Park, the new HQ offers the ideal setting at its dedicated Driving Perfection Customer Centre, where owners can personalize, configure, and receive their GMA supercar.
CEO of Gordon Murray Group, Phillip Lee, expressed contentment with the move, describing it as a substantial investment for the business and a declaration of the company’s future outlook. The relocation to Highams Park, where all future GMA models will be manufactured, is expected to result in the completion of all 100 exclusive T.50 customer cars.
Mofid Elkemiri, CEO of Gordon Murray Automotive, also commented on the move, emphasizing its potential to bring significant manufacturing efficiencies and expedite the T.33 experimental prototype monocoques programme.
Overall, GMA intends to produce over 27 prototype versions of the elegantly-designed T.33 coupe and Spider for various pre-production testing and developmental activities, including chassis dynamics, aerodynamics, durability, performance, emissions, crash testing, and certification, to ensure full compliance with major markets, including Europe and the United States.
The T.33 coupe, weighing just 1,090 kg, will epitomize the brand’s signature ‘Driving Perfection’ through meticulous attention to detail, exquisite design, and the 617 PS 3.9-litre Cosworth GMA.2 V12 engine revving past 11,000 rpm. The model will succeed the production of the T.50s at Highams Park, with only 100 coupe and 100 Spider models destined for owners globally.
