New Food and Drink Hub to Revitalize Wrexham City Centre

2 min read

The approval of plans for a dynamic food and drink hub in the city centre of Wrexham has been granted, as the Chapter Court development has received the green light from the local authority.

Taking inspiration from London’s Camden Market, the proposal aims to revitalize a struggling section of the city centre by converting a rear courtyard off Argyle Street into a bustling space filled with food and drink establishments, as well as an events area.

This development is a response to the decline in the area, with many retailers relocating to other shopping complexes, resulting in a vacant and underutilized space. However, the Chapter Court project seeks to attract a different type of retailer and breathe new life into the area with a unique customer offering.

The plans also encompass the creation of a ‘micro retail’ and ‘micro food vendor’ space, which would be the first of its kind in the area. Additionally, the provision of ‘go-to’ places for dining and drinking, as well as the ability to host year-round events within the rejuvenated courtyard, are included.

Furthermore, the broader Chapter Court scheme, which aims to redevelop a group of shops near Queen’s Square, has already seen positive developments, such as the opening of a new craft beer tap room called Rough Hands Tap. The refurbished retail units have also attracted local businesses, thereby making a positive contribution to the local community.

With the recent approval of the application by the council, the Chapter Court development is poised to create an innovative and dynamic space in the heart of Wrexham, promoting independent businesses and catering to the evolving needs of the town’s visitors.

This impressive project not only breathes new life into a neglected part of the city, but also reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of Wrexham and its commitment to providing a diverse and engaging experience for residents and visitors alike.
