Mercedes-Benz is poised to inaugurate a new office which will focus on technological services, situated on the main Calle Larios pedestrian shopping street in Malaga city. This new hub, located at number 4 Marqués de Calle Larios, is expected to commence operations on Thursday 4th July, with a staff complement of 60 employees. The majority of positions will be filled by local recruits who will be working on various projects encompassing innovation, big data, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and finance.

The establishment of this new office will signify Mercedes-Benz’s second centre of its kind in Spain, following the successful operations of its existing site in Madrid. The selection of Malaga as the location for the new office is attributed to the city’s burgeoning technological landscape. The arrival of the German multinational further solidifies Malaga’s position in the technology sector, significantly contributing to employment opportunities.

Over the past decade, Malaga has witnessed remarkable growth in the technology industry, with the number of professionals engaged in innovative branches of the economy more than doubling. In 2013, the city had 8,631 individuals employed in the technology sector, a figure that soared to over 19,000 by 2023. The notable increase represents a gain of more than 10,000 net technological affiliates within the span of ten years.

Mercedes-Benz’s decision to establish a presence in Malaga is part of the city’s recent technological upsurge, with other major companies also making significant investments. Notably, Google recently unveiled its new security engineering centre on Paseo de la Farola, adding approximately 60 employees to its workforce. Furthermore, the Málaga TechPark is poised to become the home of the headquarters of IMEC, the Belgian research and development centre renowned for its expertise in semiconductors. It is expected that the new IMEC facility will employ 450 researchers, further enhancing Malaga’s appeal as a hub for technological innovation.

In conclusion, the establishment of Mercedes-Benz’s new technology hub is a testament to the growing prominence of Malaga in the technology sector. The city’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement has not only attracted the attention of industry giants such as Mercedes-Benz and Google, but has also led to substantial job creation. With the inauguration of the new office on Calle Larios, Malaga is poised to further solidify its status as a thriving technological hub in Spain.
