The Flapper: A Canal-Side Gem Secures Its Future

3 min read

Hey folks! I’ve got some awesome news for you. The Flapper, that cool canal-side pub and music venue, is here to stay! After a long and hard battle against developers, they have finally secured protection from any future developments. Can I get a hell yeah?

Let me take you back to 2017 when The Flapper faced the dreaded bulldozer. Some big shots wanted to turn the Cambrian Wharf building into flats, but the community wasn’t having it. They launched a kick-ass campaign, and guess what? The council’s planning committee said, ‘Nah, we’re not gonna let that happen.’ Victory!

But wait, there’s more. In January 2020, The Flapper’s lease ended, and the pub had to close its doors. It was a sad time for all the regulars. But fear not, my friends, because after 17 long months, The Flapper made a triumphant comeback. Samantha Campbell-Whyte, the badass boss who had been running the joint since 2007, said, ‘The Flapper means everything to me. Now she’s back, I’m making sure she never faces any threat ever again.’ You go, girl!

And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Flapper has officially become the owners of the pub. That’s right, they’re in charge now, and they’re not going anywhere. No more worrying about pesky developers trying to snatch away this beloved venue. To celebrate this epic victory, The Flapper is throwing a massive party. Get ready for a night to remember!

Mark your calendars for November 24, because that’s when the Celebration Evening is happening. And let me tell you, it’s gonna be off the charts. They’ve got free beer giveaways, acoustic artists, tattoo artists, and even a free live show. How cool is that?

But wait, there’s more. Birmingham punks Templeton Pek will be rocking the stage at 8pm, and they’re not alone. Love Breakers and Wood and Nails will also be bringing the house down. It’s gonna be a wild night, my friends.

And did I mention the free drinks? From 4pm until 8pm (or until they run out), you can enjoy free beer and spirits. They’ve got some top-notch brews from Stirchley brewery Attic, as well as Veltins, Madri, and Stowford Press. Cheers to that!

So, if you’re looking for a good time, head on over to The Flapper on November 24. It’s gonna be a blast, and you don’t wanna miss out. Just remember, this event is only for the grown-ups, so leave the kiddos at home.

The Flapper has been around since 1969, starting off as The Longboat before The Firkin brewery took over in the 90s. It’s gone through a few name changes, but it’s always been a beloved spot for music lovers and pub-goers alike. Long live The Flapper!
