Optimum Finance Helps Scottish Dairy Farm Mooove with the Times!

3 min read

Optimum Finance is helping a Scottish dairy farm expand its range of dairy products, forge new business relationships, and better manage its cashflow. Mossgiel Organic Farm, owned by farmer Bryce Cunningham, is one of Scotland’s fastest growing organic dairy farms. With an Invoice Finance facility from Optimum Finance, Bryce can now manage his cashflow more effectively and look to expand his operations.

Mossgiel Organic Farm is committed to creating a sustainable dairy. In addition to its herd of 45 Ayrshire cows, it also includes a co-operative of five other Scottish organic farms. Bryce explains that they handle the pasteurisation, processing, bottling, and delivery of the organic milk. Their customers range from single bottle doorstep deliveries to local businesses and larger retailers.

To fund the gap between delivery and payment, Bryce turned to Invoice Finance on the recommendation of an intermediary. Optimum Finance provides cashflow funding by using receivables (invoices) as the principal asset against which money can be raised. They pay an agreed percentage of the invoice value (typically around 75%) as soon as it is submitted, providing liquidity at the point of invoice.

Bryce has found that the speed of payment is often determined by the systems his customers use. Those with digital systems tend to pay more quickly, while those with paper-based systems take longer. Despite this, Bryce has been pleased with the customer service provided by Optimum Finance. They are always available to answer his questions and provide a responsive service.

In addition to providing instant access to cash, Invoice Finance has become an essential part of running a successful business for Bryce. He no longer has to worry about not getting paid or paying his own suppliers on time. With the support of Optimum Finance, Mossgiel Organic Farm aims to produce 400,000 litres of milk every month in the next 10 years.

Bryce is proud of the quality of their milk and their commitment to sustainability. They use reusable packaging and all-electric delivery vehicles. They have also brought back glass bottles in preference to plastic, embracing some of the ‘old-fashioned’ ways of the past.

Bryce concludes by saying, ‘We pride ourselves on thinking outside the churn to bring as much of our award-winning milk to as many folks as possible. We have an ambitious plan to expand our business and the range of products we sell, and having an Invoice Finance facility from Optimum Finance will no doubt support us on our future journey.’
