The National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA) has been doing some amazing work in Rwanda! They have this program called Open Calls, and it’s been a game-changer for local industries. Basically, they’re providing support to companies in different sectors to help them upgrade their equipment and improve their productivity. How cool is that?
Since 2018, NIRDA has been running the Open Calls Program, and it has been a huge success. They’ve already supported ten value chains, which is pretty impressive. And let me tell you, these value chains are the backbone of Rwanda’s industrial landscape.
One of the sectors that has benefited from this program is agriculture. NIRDA has really revolutionized farming in poultry, piggery, and animal feeds. Just ask Yves Nkubito, the owner of Nkubito Enterprise. He used to struggle with old machines and manual methods, but thanks to NIRDA’s support, he now has upgraded machines that have made a world of difference. And get this, he got them on a loan with zero interest rate! Talk about a sweet deal.
But it’s not just agriculture that’s getting a boost. The urbanization sector is also seeing some remarkable advancements. Companies in the stone and clay value chains have acquired state-of-the-art equipment like CNC Bridge saws and automated edge-polishing machines. And let me tell you, these machines are a game-changer. They’re making construction materials like never before. Plus, there are cool things happening in lime production, crushing plants, and even brick-making. It’s like the future is being built right in front of our eyes!
And guess what? NIRDA is not doing all of this alone. They’re partnering with the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) to support value chains in agriculture and urbanization. Together, they’re making a real difference in the lives of local companies. And the best part? These companies are getting upgraded equipment at a 50% grant, 50% loan, with zero interest and no collateral. It’s like a dream come true!
But wait, there’s more. NIRDA is also working wonders in the wood processing value chain. They’re bringing excellence to the table with equipment like CBM Wood Kilns and CNC Nesting machines. Precision is the name of the game here. And let’s not forget about the fruits and vegetables value chain. Companies in this sector are not only getting upgraded equipment, but they’re also receiving zero-interest loans and collateral-free support. It’s all about empowering them to boost their production and quality.
And here’s something exciting. NIRDA has partnered with OCP Group and the South Africa Trade and Development Bank to enhance the cow in the car value chain. Yes, you heard that right. They’re using technology to make this value chain even better. How cool is that?
NIRDA is not just about equipment though. They’re also offering business development services and technical assistance to supported companies. They’re in it for the long haul, and they want these companies to succeed.
Dr. Christian Sekomo Birame, the Director General of NIRDA, is really optimistic about the impact of the Open Calls Program. He believes that the upgraded equipment will boost productivity and competitiveness, and create more jobs. And you know what? I believe him. NIRDA’s Open Calls Program is a game-changer. It’s all about empowering local companies and fostering economic development. Rwanda is showing the world that they’re serious about competitiveness and innovation. And that’s something to be proud of!
