Bringing a Taste of NYC to New Jersey’s Suburbs

In the fast-paced environment of pre-pandemic New York City, Jonathan Krieger and Brandon Hirsch thrived with their diverse business ventures, ranging from restaurants to cafes. However, the onset of the pandemic brought about a shift in their perspective, prompting them to seek a new direction. As a result, they made the decisive choice to depart from New York and focus their attention on New Jersey.

Jonathan Krieger, the founder and CEO of Cure Companies, along with Brandon Hirsch, the COO, established a reputation through successful partnerships and investments, including Bluestone Lane and Taco Dumbo. Their current focus is directed towards their new location, just beyond the George Washington Bridge.

Their latest endeavour, Spring House in Tenafly, aims to convert the oldest residence in the affluent Bergen County into a vibrant community centre reminiscent of New York City’s Soho House. The primary objective is to create a distinct dining experience that fosters a sense of community, blending nostalgia with a contemporary flair.

The historically significant Demarest-Lyle House underwent meticulous renovation to preserve its traditional allure while catering to modern preferences. The renovation of the dwelling, which has stood for over two centuries, was a substantial undertaking. However, the completion of the renovations occurred within a mere six months, a notable departure from the typical processes in New York City.

Krieger and Hirsch were attracted to Tenafly due to its “supportive and appreciative” community, providing them with a sense of welcome and a departure from Manhattan’s competitive environment.

The community has responded positively to their decision to shift their focus from Manhattan to Bergen County. They have even succeeded in garnering celebrity interest, with notable personalities such as Cardi B making the move to the area.

Spring House is currently accepting reservations and offers a diverse menu curated by chef Pasquale Frola, showcasing upscale Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, all sourced locally. The menu aims to deliver a global-inspired fine dining experience, featuring dishes such as head-on Argentine shrimp, grilled octopus, and an elevated lasagna bolognese.

The venue presents a range of offerings, including dining, beverages, and socialising with friends, with seating available indoors and outdoors for over 200 guests. Additionally, plans are underway to include an ice cream shop and a mini-market, reminiscent of a miniature Eataly.

Overall, Krieger and Hirsch’s venture seeks to introduce a novel and engaging culinary and social experience to the suburbs of Bergen County, catering to the community’s desire for diverse dining options and leisure activities.
