SATYA MicroCapital Ltd. has recently hosted the fourth edition of the Vijayalakshmi Das Awards, acknowledging the accomplishments of female microentrepreneurs from rural areas throughout India. The event was a tribute to the notable impact of dynamic women who are challenging societal norms and making significant advancements within the country’s entrepreneurial landscape. Held at the Roseate House in Aerocity, New Delhi, the awards ceremony honoured the outstanding contributions of women in the microfinance industry.
Distinguished members of the Board of Directors of SATYA MicroCapital Limited, SATYA Micro Housing Finance and SATYA Shakti Foundation graced the prestigious occasion. Among them were Taejun Shin, Navin Surya, CP Mohan, Surekha Marandi, Dr. Deepali Pant Joshi, Sanjay Gandhi, Dr. Ratnesh Tiwari, Mahesh Shivlingappa Payannavar Sohil Manoj Shah and Praachi Tewari Gandhi.
The Vijayalakshmi Das Awards serve as a tribute to the late Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Das, a pioneering figure in the Indian microfinance landscape who made invaluable contributions to the sector. Recognized fondly as Madam Viji, she defied societal norms and served as an inspiration for countless women with her humble persona and holistic approach.
The event was graced by esteemed Guests of Honour such as Pinki Kaushik Singh, the 2023 World Bowls Champion and Arjuna Awardee, and Neharika Yadav, India’s First Female Bike Racer, Dental Surgeon, and UNESCO Brand Ambassador.
Vivek Tiwari, the MD, CIO & CEO of SATYA MicroCapital, expressed his pride in addressing the Vijayalakshmi Das Entrepreneurship Awards for the fourth consecutive year. He emphasized the significance of celebrating the achievements of women microentrepreneurs, highlighting their ability to inspire future generations and bring about positive change in society.
The evening also featured a panel discussion on the Changing Face of Women Entrepreneurship in India, moderated by Aditi Maheshwari, CEO of Vani Prakashan. The insightful session was joined by eminent women personalities such as Dr. Madhumita Puri, Sairee Chahal, Anoushka Jain, and Tanya Singhal, each making significant strides in their respective fields.
The Vijayalakshmi Das Entrepreneurship Awards acknowledged women leaders and entrepreneurs across various business categories, including manufacturing, agri-production, textile, food, hospitality, and sustainable lifestyle products. Notable awardees include Ruma Devi, Shailza Sood Das Gupta, Nilanjana Das, Ritika, Razia Sheikh, Sadhana Dipak Deshmukh, Manju, Sukhwinder Kaur, Anchala Aswal, and Hema, among others.
In addition to the awards, the event witnessed the launch of the Vijayalakshmi Das Education Development Academy (VEDA) by Dr. Ratnesh Tiwari. This initiative, part of SATYA’s E-Learning division, aims to provide equal access to quality education for students in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities, especially in rural areas. VEDA will offer free, high-quality education focusing on STEM-based learning in alignment with the National Education Policy.
