Shapero Modern has launched an exhibition titled “The Modern Muse” in its new gallery on London’s Bond Street, featuring iconic works by renowned artists including Banksy, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and David Hockney. The exhibition highlights artworks that showcase the artists’ muses, the individuals who inspired them. Among the key pieces is a Banksy screen-print named ‘Kate Moss’, blending the image of the supermodel with the timeless features of Marilyn Monroe. The display also features Warhol’s ‘Details Of Renaissance Paintings’ (1984), influenced by Botticelli’s ‘The Birth Of Venus’, alongside vibrant portraits of notable women like Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Queen Elizabeth II. Picasso’s muses include Jacqueline Roque, portrayed in the lithograph ‘Portrait de Femme II’ (1955). Hockney’s portrait ‘Celia With Green Hat’ (1984) pays homage to his muse, textile designer Celia Birtwell. Additional works by Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and Richard Hamilton are also showcased. The new gallery at 94 New Bond Street will also serve as a hub for the company’s bookshop and decorative print gallery. Tabitha Philpott-Kent, director of Shapero Modern, expressed excitement over the move, stating, “We are delighted to be joining the rest of the team in the new flagship store on Bond Street, giving us more exposure to visitors of London’s most iconic shopping street.” Founded in 2014, Shapero Modern focuses on post-war and contemporary prints and works on paper.
