Moncler unveiled ten unique designer collections at its Shanghai event, The City of Genius, during Shanghai Fashion Week on 19 October. The event, part of Moncler’s Genius project led by CEO Remo Ruffini, was held at a sprawling former shipyard. Major design talents including Rick Owens, A$AP Rocky, and Jil Sander presented collections inspired by alpine aesthetics. The collaborative nature of the showcase saw installations tailored to reflect the identity of each designer, turning the venue into an immersive cityscape, which included neighbourhoods styled after each collection. Among the participating designers were Edward Enninful, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Donald Glover, and Willow Smith. The innovative installations, created by events studio Villa Eugénie, featured distinct environments encapsulating each designer’s vision. Notably, Rick Owens created a mountain shelter-inspired space, while A$AP Rocky’s collection was showcased in a living room setting. Enninful’s space simulated extreme weather conditions, enhancing the thematic presentation of his all-black outfit collection. The various collections presented are slated for launch through 2024 and 2025, following the initial rollout of the Genius initiative in Milan in 2018. The event not only marks a significant moment in designer collaboration but also showcases Moncler’s evolution in terms of fashion direction by exploring diverse creative aesthetics.
Moncler’s Genius initiative aims to integrate contemporary fashion designs into its brand, emphasising collaboration among diverse talents. Launched in February 2018, the initiative has hosted multiple editions, allowing different designers to reinterpret Moncler’s signature styles. The Shanghai event signifies the sixth installation and is notable for its emphasis on creating immersive experiences that blend fashion and environment, showcasing the intersection of different creative fields including design, music, and technology.
The City of Genius event in Shanghai highlighted Moncler’s commitment to innovation through collaboration, featuring ten collections from prominent designers. The immersive and thematic installations showcased the versatility of Moncler’s designs and set the stage for future collections to be launched. This initiative continues to redefine Moncler’s fashion narrative by embracing diverse aesthetics and fostering creativity within the industry.
