Jaguar Land Rover Expands EV Testing with Future Energy Lab

1 min read

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has just opened a brand new EV test facility called the Future Energy Lab. This state-of-the-art facility, located in Coventry, UK, is dedicated to developing electric drive units (EDUs) for JLR’s upcoming electric vehicles, including the Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar models. With over £40 million worth of cutting-edge technology, the lab allows for rapid testing of EVs, featuring electric test rigs, EDU manufacturing, and electric vehicle systems test cells. It even has extreme-weather climate chambers that can simulate temperatures ranging from -40°C to 55°C. This facility is part of JLR’s £15 billion investment to electrify its luxury brands over the next five years, and it will help reduce the need to transport prototype cars to other global test facilities, saving costs and emissions. Currently, more than 200 EV engineers are working at the lab, and JLR plans to create an additional 150 roles. The opening of this facility not only benefits JLR but also provides employment opportunities and skills development for the local community.
