Asahi Kasei and Sage Automotive Interiors have decided to invest in a cool US-based start-up called NFW. NFW is all about making leather alternatives for car interiors that are not made from petroleum. They’ve developed this awesome platform that can make natural leather, foam, and textiles to replace animal and petrochemical-based materials. This is a big part of Asahi Kasei’s plan to grow and help reduce the environmental impact of cars. NFW’s leather alternative, called MIRUM, is made from natural rubber, natural fibres, plant oils, natural pigments, and minerals. It’s super durable and high-quality, and it can replace traditional leather without any polyurethane or other coatings. Sage Automotive Interiors, which is part of Asahi Kasei, is also involved in this partnership. They make innovative materials for car interiors and have been expanding their business in Europe and China. Dirk Pieper, the Chairman of the Sage Board of Directors, says that this partnership will help Asahi Kasei and Sage make a non-petroleum-based and fully circular leather alternative for cars. It’s a big step in changing the market for car interior materials. So, it’s pretty cool that these companies are working together to make cars more eco-friendly!
