Mercedes will not launch its 2025 F1 car at Silverstone, breaking tradition. Instead, they will debut the W16 during a filming event in Bahrain on 25 February just before testing. This allows for last-minute development. The team’s livery will be revealed at an event in London on 18 February, coinciding with F1’s 75th anniversary.

Mercedes has chosen to break with its tradition of launching its Formula 1 car at Silverstone, opting instead for a filming day at the Bahrain International Circuit on 25 February with the new W16. George Russell and rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli will take the stage during this event before pre-season testing begins on the same track from 26-28 February.

Unlike past years where Mercedes unveiled cars at Silverstone—typically in the early morning preceding a filming day—this change allows the team to maximise development up until the last minute. Team principal Toto Wolff noted, “It always rains in Silverstone, so we decided that we don’t want to stand in the freezing rain again!”

The team’s livery will still be showcased at a London event on 18 February during F1’s official season launch, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the championship. While Ferrari and Aston Martin plan early unveilings, Williams will present its new FW47 on Valentine’s Day, showcasing a unique one-off livery.

Some teams may hold off on unveiling their cars until the pre-season testing starts on 26 February, reflecting a trend toward later launches amidst the competitive environment in F1. This strategic move could help teams minimise initial performance issues related to new regulations.
