Greggs Aims to Open First 24-Hour Drive-Thru in Wales

Greggs, the famous pasty giant, has applied for permission to open its first 24-hour drive-thru in Treforest Industrial Estate in Wales. The application has raised concerns from objectors, the community council, and planning officers. Greggs plans to demolish an existing building and construct a single-storey bakery with a drive-thru and parking. While the application seeks 24-hour opening, delivery, and servicing hours, the actual opening hours may vary. Currently, there are only six Greggs branches in the UK that operate 24 hours, all of which are located in airports. However, Greggs has applied for special licenses to potentially expand its 24-hour service to other locations. The plans for the drive-thru in Treforest will be reviewed by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s planning committee, with planning officers recommending refusal due to flood risk and ecology concerns. Objectors and the local community council have also expressed concerns about noise and light pollution, impact on road users, and existing police issues in the area. The proposed Greggs bakery would create 15 full-time jobs and replace an existing unit that is currently vacant. Despite objections from the public and the community council, Greggs remains hopeful that the drive-thru will be approved.
