How Farmers Can Use Technology to Prevent Farm Theft

Farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector are being encouraged to use technology to help prevent farm theft. The advice comes from Chairman of the Youth in Agriculture Committee, Joseph Small. In a recent interview, Small pointed out that there are measures farmers can implement to safeguard their crop, property, and livestock. He suggests using technological devices such as geofencing and audiovisual recording to protect their farming enterprise. Small emphasizes the importance of protecting farm equipment, as its theft can negatively impact efficiency and productivity. Farm theft includes the stealing of livestock, crops, machinery, and fishing gear. Small warns that contaminated food resulting from farm theft can have serious consequences, even leading to death. To learn more about safeguarding farms, individuals can contact their nearest Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) Parish Office or visit rada.gov.jm for details.
