6 Signs You Might Be Overdoing It with the Booze

Hey, are you worried that you might be hitting the bottle a bit too hard? Well, here are six signs that you might want to cut back on the booze. The NHS says we shouldn’t drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week, which is about seven or eight pints of regular strength beer or cider. But let’s face it, drinking isn’t as cool as it used to be. More and more young people are choosing to stay sober, and even celebs like Adele, Tom Holland, and Daniel Radcliffe have given up the booze. They’ve all been pretty open about their struggles with alcohol, with Adele even calling herself a ‘borderline alcoholic’ in her twenties. So, what are the signs that you might be heading down the same path? Dr Dave Nichols, an NHS GP, has the lowdown. If you’re drinking every day without even thinking about it, binge-drinking regularly, only socialising where there’s booze, drinking during the day, getting annoyed when others aren’t drinking, or going over the NHS guidelines every month, you might want to take a step back. Dr Nichols says that if you’re developing an uncontrollable desire to drink, it’s a sign of alcoholism. And if you’re experiencing symptoms like abdominal pain, stress, anxiety, bad skin, trouble sleeping, irritability, or high blood pressure, it’s time to cut back. Long-term, excessive drinking can lead to liver problems, heart disease, diabetes, and mental health issues. But don’t worry, there’s help out there. You can call Drinkline for confidential advice, join Alcoholics Anonymous for support, or get help from We Are With You. So, if you’re worried about your drinking, reach out for help. Cheers to a healthier you!
