NTT Corporation and Sony Group Corporation have teamed up to integrate Sony’s precision bilateral control technology with NTT’s low-latency transport technology through its IOWN Photonics Network (APN). The goal of this collaboration is to enable precise remote manipulation with haptic feedback, regardless of the distance between separated locations.
During the joint experiment, operators in remote locations received high-precision haptic information and 3D visual data with minimal delay. The results confirmed that operators could experience stable and real-time tactile feedback similar to direct physical contact with the objects, even from remote locations. Some of the exciting findings from this research will be showcased at the NTT R&D Forum – IOWN ACCELERATION, scheduled from November 13 to 17, 2023.
