The Era of Electric Racing: Team Blue Rising and the Future of Sustainable Technology
The world is changing, and so is the way we race. With the rise of electric technology, the future of motor sports is taking a sustainable turn. From Formula E to MotoE, and now the UIM E1 World Championship, the world of racing is embracing electric power like never before.
The UIM E1 World Championship is set to make history as the world’s first all-electric race boat series. Scheduled to kick off in Jeddah on February 2-3 next year, the championship will feature up to 10 teams competing in its inaugural season. Among these teams is the UAE-based Team Blue Rising, co-owned by League Sports Co (LSC) founder Adi K Mishra and Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli.
For Mishra, the E1 championship represents a convergence of his business philosophy, focusing on sustainability, technology, and inclusivity. He emphasised the importance of sustainability and women in sports, highlighting the unique engineering feats of the E1 boats, which are designed for sharp turns and powered by electric powertrains.
The E1 championship places a strong emphasis on sustainability, marine conservation, and diversity, with each team required to have one male and one female pilot. The innovative technology behind the E1 boats includes electric powertrains, hydrofoils, and uniform boat designs, enabling races to be held in shallow waters and close to urban areas.
Team Blue Rising is not only embracing cutting-edge technology but also prioritising sustainability and conservation. The team has partnered with the Universal Carbon Registry (UCR) to offset its carbon footprint and is actively involved in mangrove ecosystem conservation, aligning with the objectives of Cop28 in the UAE.
In addition to its commitment to sustainability, Team Blue Rising has gained significant star power with the addition of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. Kohli’s strong advocacy for sustainability and women empowerment has resonated with the team’s values, making him a valuable asset in raising awareness for these causes.
The E1 championship, set to run until September 2024, has also attracted other high-profile celebrities such as NFL legend Tom Brady, tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, former footballer Didier Drogba, and F1 driver Sergio Perez. With the convergence of sports, technology, and sustainability, the E1 championship and Team Blue Rising are driving the future of electric racing towards a more sustainable and inclusive era.
