Thai businesses are calling for some big changes in the country. They want the government to bring in new technology, attract skilled workers from other countries, improve education, and encourage more people to have babies. The Thai Chamber of Commerce recently sent a report to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, highlighting the need for these changes.
The chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Sanan Angubolkul, spoke at the chamber’s annual seminar in Bangkok. He pointed out that Thailand has been successful in the past, especially with its development, exports, and tourism. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has made it clear that the country needs to make some major changes to keep moving forward.
The report from the Thai Chamber of Commerce emphasised the importance of digital innovation and bringing in new technology to make things work better. They also want the government to make it easier for skilled workers from other countries to come and work in Thailand. This would help bring in new skills and technology.
To make it more attractive for skilled workers to come to Thailand, the government could offer things like easier visas and work permits, as well as reducing taxes and bureaucracy for people living in the country.
Another important point in the report is the need to boost the birth rate and improve education. The idea is to prepare Thai people to be part of the global community and adapt to the changes happening around the world.
The seminar also highlighted the fact that many businesses in Thailand are facing tough times, and the government needs to step in to help small and medium-sized companies. The chamber suggested that the government should focus on developing places like Saraburi, Tak, and other smaller provinces to attract more tourists.
During the seminar, Prime Minister Srettha expressed the government’s support for tourism in these smaller provinces and mentioned plans to expand their airports. He also said that the government is open to considering proposals from the private sector to develop these areas.
It’s clear that Thai businesses are looking for some big changes, and they believe that bringing in new technology, skilled workers, and improving education are key to moving the country forward.
