As the winter season approaches, it is crucial for educators to feel confident in utilizing electronic classrooms. In order to alleviate any trepidation prior to teaching, the Information Services & Technology (IST) is extending valuable assistance through demonstrations of installed classroom and portable audiovisual equipment. The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that instructors are thoroughly prepared to navigate the electronic classroom environment with ease.

Preparation for Winter Instruction:
To initiate readiness for the winter season, it is imperative to follow these essential steps:

– Confirm the assigned classroom location via Aurora or by contacting your departmental liaison. This verification will facilitate a smooth transition on the first day of classes.
– Visit the assigned classrooms to confirm the setup configuration. This step is pivotal in acquainting yourself with the classroom space and its amenities.
– Participate in the demonstration of the installed classroom and portable audiovisual equipment. These hands-on sessions will offer invaluable insights into the functionality of the electronic classroom.

Checklist for Technical Readiness:
Before entering the electronic classroom, it is essential to ensure the following:

– Connect to the UM Wi-Fi network and follow the uofm secure instructions for a secure connection.
– Set up Multifactor Authentication to enhance security measures.
– Purchase a lapel microphone through the designated business manager via EPIC to facilitate clear communication during instructional sessions.
– Acquire the appropriate video adaptor for your laptop; take note of the room’s connectivity options, such as VGA or HDMI connections.

Overview of Demonstrations:
These sessions will encompass the following:

– Instructor-oriented room features and available amenities.
– Basic troubleshooting strategies to address common technological glitches.
– Functionality of room configurations and technologies, including Digital Control Style, Analog Control Style, Portable Equipment, and Bring Your Own Device.

Special Notes:

– It is highly recommended to attend a demonstration specific to the equipment you will be utilizing to enhance your confidence and preparation for the winter classes.
