Tom Walsh, the chief executive and co-founder of Staycity, has been honoured with the esteemed International Entrepreneur of the Year award at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EoY) award ceremony held on Thursday evening. Together with his brother Ger Walsh, Mr. Walsh co-established the short-term apartment rental company Staycity in 2003, and has since expanded the business from a single apartment in a former U2 recording studio in Temple Bar, Dublin. Staycity is renowned for its proficiency in short- and mid-stay aparthotels in European city locations, catering to both business and leisure travellers. According to EY, the Staycity Group, under the Staycity and Wilde Aparthotels brands, has emerged as one of Europe’s leading aparthotel operators, managing an impressive estate of 5,300 apartments across 32 locations. Staycity reported a turnover of €175 million in 2022, a significant increase from €78 million in 2019, and projects a turnover of €230 million for 2023.
In a recent development, Staycity was announced as the new primary sponsor for Dublin GAA. Reflecting on the honour, Mr. Walsh expressed gratitude towards his team for the acknowledgement. He attributed the success of Staycity to the exceptional guest service and support provided to the team, emphasizing the company’s commitment to maintaining these principles. He also spoke about the company’s focus on sustained growth, affirming their dedication to progress and expansion despite the exciting pipeline of projects.
