The government of Ekiti has embarked on a mission to reposition the state as a thriving centre for creative technology within the next three years. Seun Fakuade, the commissioner for innovation, science, and digital economy, disclosed this ambitious objective during a two-day innovation summit titled “Kick-starting Ekiti state’s path to prosperity” in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. Fakuade underscored that the realization of this goal would be facilitated through the establishment of innovation spaces and programs, offering crucial support for the state’s youth to achieve their aspirations.
In his address, Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti, urged the youth to equip themselves with 21st-century skills to make meaningful contributions to the country’s development. Represented at the event by Abibat Adubiaro, the secretary to the state government, Oyebanji reiterated his dedication to steering the state towards a technology-driven future.
The governor outlined plans for the digital transformation of the state’s public service and the implementation of electronic governance (e-governance) aimed at streamlining bureaucratic processes and improving operational efficiency. Furthermore, he unveiled a comprehensive blueprint to guide Ekiti’s evolution into a hub for innovation, leveraging the state’s cultural identity to foster a dynamic knowledge-based economy and foster technological innovation.
Oyebanji emphasized that the achievement of these strategic objectives hinges on concerted efforts from all stakeholders, including citizens, businesses, and policymakers. He underscored the need for collective commitment to bring these plans to fruition.
