Singapore’s prominent container line, Ocean Network Express (ONE), has recently made waves as it ventures into testing the waters of containerised wind propulsion technology. The company has taken a significant step forward in its sustainability efforts by conducting a successful land-based factory test of Econowind’s VentoFoil containers.
The forthcoming installation of two wind-assisted propulsion devices on the MV Kalamazoo, a feeder vessel with a capacity of 1,036 TEU, marks an exciting new chapter in ONE’s commitment to environmental responsibility and energy efficiency. According to an official statement released on the company’s website, each of these cutting-edge systems has the capacity to generate up to 400 kW of power, thus potentially reducing fuel consumption by up to 5%.
