The 2023 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year awards has named Sam Moffett, the managing director and founder of Moffett Automated Storage in Monaghan, as the emerging and overall winner. Founded in 2017, Moffett Automated Storage specialises in the development of automated pallet storage and warehousing solutions, with a team of 65 employees. This achievement is a testament to Sam Moffett’s exceptional leadership and innovative approach in the industry.
Ciaran Marron, the CEO and founder of Activ8 Solar Energies in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan was also recognised as the 2023 EY Established Entrepreneur Of The Year. Activ8 Solar Energies, established in 2007, has made a significant impact by installing over 100,000 solar panels across Ireland, aiming to empower homeowners and businesses to generate renewable electricity and reduce their carbon footprint.
In addition, Tom Walsh, the CEO and co-founder of Staycity, was named the 2023 EY International Entrepreneur Of The Year. Staycity, founded in 2003, specialises in short and mid-stay aparthotels in prime European city locations for both business and leisure travellers. The company’s estate now spans 5,300 apartments across 32 locations, showcasing their tremendous growth and success in the industry.
Furthermore, Dr Andrew Woods, the CEO and founder of CATAGEN, was awarded the 2023 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Sustainability award. Founded in 2019, CATAGEN is a Belfast-based cleantech company with a primary objective of cleaning and decarbonising the air, providing emissions tests for after-treatment systems to vehicle manufacturers, ultimately contributing to improved air quality in cities.
The awards also presented a Special Recognition Award to David McRedmond, the CEO of An Post, in recognition of his transformative efforts in leading some of Ireland’s most prominent businesses, contributing to the country’s economic and social development.
Roger Wallace, the Partner Lead for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year programme, commended the exceptional achievements of this year’s finalists and highlighted their visionary leadership and innovative concepts that are shaping industries and enhancing lives. The entrepreneurial community in Ireland has indeed made a significant contribution to the economy, with the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year alumni community generating revenues of €25 billion and employing over 250,000 people across the island of Ireland.
