Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx is facing a lawsuit that alleges he groped a woman in a Manhattan rooftop bar and restaurant back in August 2015. The plaintiff, known as Jane Doe in the complaint, claims that the assault took place in a secluded corner of the Catch NYC rooftop lounge. The incident occurred after she and a friend approached Foxx and had their pictures taken with him.
Foxx’s representatives have not yet commented on the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages. According to the lawsuit, Foxx forcibly touched the woman and began groping her against her will until her friend intervened, at which point she left the scene.
The actor, famous for his portrayal of singer Ray Charles in the 2004 film “Ray,” is one of several high-profile celebrities to be accused of sexual misconduct under the Adult Survivors Act in New York. This law allows individuals to file lawsuits in court, even if the statutes of limitations have expired. The deadline for filing complaints under this law is at the end of the current month.
In a separate case on the same day, music industry veteran Jimmy Iovine was also sued by a woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” for alleged sexual abuse in 2007. Iovine’s spokesperson expressed shock and disbelief at the allegations, stating that no one had previously made such claims against him.
Russell Brand, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Donald Trump, and Sean “Diddy” Combs are among the other public figures who have been sued under the same law. Each case sheds light on the ongoing societal conversation regarding sexual abuse and harassment, even when the alleged incidents took place many years ago.
In another recent development, Axl Rose, the former lead singer of Guns N’ Roses, was sued under the law for an alleged assault dating back to 1989. Sheila Kennedy, an actress and former Penthouse Pet of the Year, filed the lawsuit against Rose.
These lawsuits highlight the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status in society. As the cases unfold, it is essential to remember that everyone has the right to seek justice for any harm they have experienced.
