Musical Delights at The Mermaid Theatre and Whale Theatre
The Mermaid Theatre will kick off the season on December 3 with a heartwarming performance by the WhistleBlast Quartet, followed by an evening of Opera classics and Christmas themes by Greystones native Jade Phoenix at the Whale Theatre. The Camembert Quartet will then close the musical trilogy at the Whale Theatre on December 16, promising a night of music, entertainment, and good old-fashioned fun.
Comedy Nights at The Whale Theatre
For those in need of some laughter, The Whale Theatre has prepared a special treat with two revered Irish comedians set to perform this festive season. David O’Doherty will take the stage on December 15, followed by David McSavage’s new show ‘If That Makes Sense’ on December 29.
Festive Musicals and Ballets
The Mermaid Arts Centre will host the annual Junior and Youth Musicals Christmas production on December 8 and 9, featuring excerpts from popular musicals such as ‘Annie’, ‘Six’, and ‘Hamilton’. Meanwhile, the Studio 55 Dance Academy is bringing ‘Elf the Musical’ to Wicklow for the first time, with shows scheduled from December 15 to 17.
On the other hand, Dominican College in Wicklow town will be presenting the Roald Dahl musical ‘Matilda’ on December 6, 7, and 8. The highly-anticipated Nutcracker Ballet performances by the Ruth Shine School of Dance & Valleymount Theatre Company will take place on December 1, 2, 15, and 16 at Valleymount Hall.
Joyous Christmas Carols and Opera Soirée
Get into the festive spirit with a series of carol concerts taking place around Wicklow. From Suantrai Female Vocal Ensemble’s debut Christmas concert in Arklow to Christ Church’s annual Carols by Candlelight in Bray, there are delightful melodies waiting to be heard. An upcoming Christmas Opera Soirée at Russborough House on December 9 will offer a magical evening of food, music, and Christmas classics.
Rounding up the musical celebrations, the Mermaid Theatre will host a special performance by traditional artists Caitlín Nic Gabhann, Síle Denvir, Andrea Palandri, and Pádraic Keane on December 17, as well as a captivating show by the brilliant live band, Scullion, on December 21.
