Revolutionizing Water Management in Data Centres: A Collaboration Between IX Technology and Hydroleap

2 min read

Hydroleap, a water technology company, and Singapore’s data centre mechanical and electrical solutions provider, IX Technology, have announced a strategic partnership with the goal of revolutionizing water management in cooling towers within the data centre industry. The partnership aims to enable businesses to reduce water consumption, lower chemical use, decrease the carbon footprint, and enhance regulatory compliance.

IX Technology (IXT) will be promoting Hydroleap’s patented Electro-Oxidation Technology (HL-EO), which is already being utilized by major blue-chip data centre companies and CapitaLand. This cutting-edge technology will now be introduced to additional data centre and semiconductor companies in Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

The data centre industry plays a pivotal role in supporting the digital infrastructure of the modern world. However, due to their intensive water consumption and discharges, the sector is facing mounting pressure to adopt environmentally friendly practices and comply with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements.

Steven Lee, the founder and managing director of IXT, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our journey towards developing more sustainable data centre facilities. Together with Hydroleap, we aim to set a new standard for water treatment and carbon reduction for data centres.”

According to a 2022 global market comparison report, Singapore was ranked as the second most desirable market for data centre facilities in the world. Singapore’s industrial sector currently consumes 55% of the country’s water, a figure which is expected to rise to 70% by the year 2060.

Dr Mohammad Sherafatmand, CEO and founder of Hydroleap, emphasized the importance of efficient cooling methods with lower water consumption for sustainability. He stated, “By combining our teams, we aim to empower data centre businesses to be more sustainable in their water consumption.”

This strategic collaboration between Hydroleap and IX Technology is a significant step forward in the effort to make data centres more sustainable. With the rising demand for data centre facilities in Singapore and beyond, it is crucial for the industry to adopt eco-friendly practices to ensure a sustainable future.
