Women in Technology Annual Event: Unlock Your Potential and Thrive

The anticipated annual event ‘Empowerment – Live Without Limits’ hosted by the University of New Mexico Women in Technology (WIT) organization is scheduled to take place on December 7th. This all-day event will be held at the UNM Student Union Building in the Acoma and Lobo rooms from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

One of the main highlights of ‘Live Without Limits’ is the keynote presentation by Dr. Melanie Moses, Professor of Computer Science and Biology. With a diverse academic background, Dr. Moses has conducted interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Computer Science and Biology. Her work includes modeling search processes in complex adaptive systems, such as ant colonies, immune systems, and the immune response of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Dr. Moses has been a mentor to numerous graduate and undergraduate students at UNM and has led impactful projects, including the New Mexico Computer Science for All and the NASA Swarmathon. Her dedication to engaging women and underrepresented groups in computer science is evident through her involvement in programs such as the Google ExploreCSR Swarmathon and the UNM-SFI Working Group on Algorithmic Justice.

Furthermore, Dr. Moses plays a pivotal role in advancing the success of women faculty in STEM through her participation in the UNM ADVANCE program. Her involvement in national organizations, including the Computing Research Association Computing Community Consortium and Computing Research – Widening Participation in Research, underscores her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the field of computer science.
