Greenock High School Students Excel in National Finance Competition

The students at Inverclyde Academy have demonstrated their impressive capabilities in the field of finance by making it to the final of a prestigious national competition.

The Scotland’s Investment Challenge has provided an excellent platform for S5/S6 pupils to exhibit their financial expertise by collaboratively managing a virtual investment fund. This has necessitated the students to apply their skills in decision-making based on thorough research and current events.

Their triumph in the competition has secured them a place in the regional final, where they will compete against students from Bearsden Academy and Mearns Castle High School.

Laura Wilson, the Financial Services Sector Manager at Skills Development Scotland, has expressed her enthusiasm for the competition, highlighting the opportunity it offers for young individuals to gain insight into potential career paths in the financial services industry. She has also emphasized the importance of meta-skills such as critical thinking and communication, which the competition helps to cultivate.

The competition, which involved a total of 1,100 pupils from 26 schools, utilized the online business simulation Finance Lab. The competition, sponsored by the Securities Services business of BNP Paribas in collaboration with Skills Development Scotland and Global Investor Simulations, aligns with the Developing the Young Workforce strategy.
