Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC’s revamp of London’s Olympia is nearing completion, introducing elevated public spaces, performance venues, and various amenities atop the iconic venue. The transformation aims to enhance public access, with a plaza and cultural destination expected to open in summer 2025, preserving the site’s historical essence while modernising its use.

The Olympia events centre in west London, undergoing a transformation by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC, is nearing completion. The redevelopment includes elevated public spaces, performance venues, and a variety of amenities such as bars and restaurants atop the historic Victorian exhibition halls. Alongside these additions, the project will create offices, two hotels, a 1,575-seat theatre, and a 4,000-capacity live music venue, enhancing accessibility and community engagement within the site. Heatherwick Studio aims to open up the previously fortress-like venue, which had limited public access, by integrating a public plaza atop the exhibition spaces. The design involves new escalated access routes leading visitors from street level to elevated areas, providing stunning views of the city. The offices are designed with stepped back facades offering outdoor terraces, ensuring a less dominant street presence. With an anticipated opening in summer 2025, the project aspires to revitalise the spirit of the original Victorian building, which itself was a landmark of ambition. SPPARC founder Trevor Morriss emphasised that this transformation looks to elevate the exhibition centre’s role within the community.

The Olympia events centre first opened in 1886 and has stood as a significant venue for exhibitions and gatherings. However, over the years, it has faced challenges related to accessibility and public engagement due to various extensions that made it feel more like a fortress. The current transformation, led by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC, aims to rectify these issues by creating a more inclusive space that serves both visitors and the local community. The project involves modern architectural principles while respecting the historical significance of the original structure.

The redevelopment of the Olympia events centre is set to transform its role within the community by providing an open, inviting, and multifunctional public space. With new amenities and performance venues, it aims to attract a diverse audience and breathe new life into the area, ensuring it retains the ambitious spirit of its Victorian origins. The expected completion in summer 2025 marks a significant milestone in urban architectural advancements and community integration.

Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC are nearing the completion of the Olympia events centre renovation, which includes creating a public plaza, offices, two hotels, a theatre, and a live music venue on the site. The project aims to increase community engagement and accessibility, transforming the complex into a vibrant cultural destination.

The redevelopment of London’s Olympia events centre by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC is nearing completion, with a focus on transforming the area into a vibrant public destination. This renovation will see the Victorian exhibition halls enhanced and new facilities such as restaurants, bars, offices, two hotels, a theatre, and a live music venue being constructed atop the existing structure. The project aims to increase accessibility and community engagement, providing public areas that were previously non-existent. Elliot Postma of Heatherwick Studio highlighted that the original design did not cater well to the local community, describing the site as a ‘fortress’ with limited public access. The new design intends to create an elevated plaza and public pathways leading into the heart of the site, enhancing both visibility and interaction with the space. Plans include elevated routes offering panoramic views of the city, promoting a more inviting atmosphere. SPPARC’s Trevor Morriss emphasised the ambition behind this project, asserting that it aims to uphold the legacy of the original structure while adapting to modern exhibition needs. The anticipated completion of the new amenities is set for summer 2025, promising to redefine how exhibitions and cultural events are experienced at Olympia.

The Olympia events centre, built in 1886, has long served as a venue for exhibitions but has struggled to integrate itself with the surrounding community. This redevelopment project is spearheaded by Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC to rejuvenate the site and make it more accessible and appealing to the public. The design focuses on utilising the space efficiently, while retaining the historical elements of the building, creating a balance between the past and future of the venue.

The transformation of Olympia aims to enhance community access, promote cultural engagement, and create new public spaces atop the historic venue. By addressing past shortcomings in the building’s design, Heatherwick Studio and SPPARC seek to redefine Olympia as not just an exhibition hall but a lively cultural hub. The anticipated opening of new functions in 2025 promises to reinvigorate the site and its role within the community.
