Beekeepers from West Cork achieved remarkable success at the 94th London Honey Show, winning five first prizes. Mary Downey, Mairead Dineen Love, and Mark Newnham were key winners, inspiring the local community. The Fastnet Area Beekeepers Association is now partnered with the Irish Bee Foundation, aiming to support local beekeeping initiatives and preserve native bees.

West Cork beekeepers made a significant impact at the 94th London Honey Show, securing five first-place prizes amid fierce competition. This prestigious event, established in 1923, is celebrated for highlighting excellence in beekeeping and honey production. Held at Sandown Park, the show featured local winners like Mary Downey, who triumphed in two honey categories, and Mairead Dineen Love, who claimed two firsts and a second for wax products. Mark Newnham also stood out, winning for his innovative device aiding queen replacement. The success of these individuals serves as motivation for their community. Additionally, the Fastnet Area Beekeepers Association is now part of the newly formed Irish Bee Foundation, which aims to offer training and support for local beekeepers, thereby promoting the preservation of native Irish bees.
